What is the CAPM certification?

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) is a globally recognised entry-level project managers certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). It validates your understanding of project management fundamentals and demonstrates your ability to work effectively on a project team. It's ideal for individuals looking to start a career in project management, formalise their existing knowledge, or have career development.

How to prepare for CAPM certification?

Review the PMBOK® Guide and other authorised PMI materials covering the core concepts to prepare for the CAPM certification. Taking a structured approach and enrolling in a CAPM preparation course is important to ensure you cover all the exam content. We also recommend that you have consistent study time to fully grasp the project management knowledge required for the exam.

Is CAPM hard to pass?

The CAPM examination can be challenging, but you can pass with a great score with the right preparation and study materials. The exam covers a wide range of project management basics, so it's essential to understand the key concepts outlined in the PMBOK® Guide. A solid preparation plan and practice exams will help you feel confident on exam day.

Is CAPM as good as PMP?

The CAPM and PMP® are highly respected project management certifications but serve different purposes. The CAPM is ideal for those starting their careers, while the PMP is designed for experienced Project Managers. Both certifications enhance your professional standing, but the PMP is more advanced and recognised for leadership roles.

Is CAPM Certification worth it?

Yes, CAPM certification is valuable for those entering the project management field. It demonstrates your understanding of fundamental project management principles. It is recognised globally, boosting your employability and providing a strong foundation for career growth. Whether starting or aiming to build your qualifications, CAPM is a worthwhile investment in professional development.

Is CAPM for beginners?

Yes, the CAPM certification is designed for beginners and is ideal for those new to project management. Administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), it provides a solid introduction to project management principles and practices. This credential helps beginners gain essential skills and demonstrates their commitment to a career in project management.

What is the CAPM certification?

The full qualification name is Certified Associate in Project Management. CAPM is a globally recognised, entry-level project management certification for people who want to demonstrate foundational project knowledge.

As an associate in project management credential, it confirms that you understand the principles, processes, tools, and ways of working used by project teams. Earning the CAPM credential shows that you have completed recognised training and passed the required exam.

What does “certified associate” mean?

A certified associate has earned a recognised credential that confirms foundational understanding rather than extensive senior-level experience. CAPM is intended for people building their first formal base in project management.

Is this the virtual classroom version?

Yes. This is the live online virtual classroom version of Preparing for the CAPM Certification.

It is not a self-paced online course that you complete entirely at your own pace. You will attend scheduled trainer-led sessions, join discussions, and work through the material with guided support.

Is this a project management CAPM preparation course?

Yes. This project management CAPM course prepares you for the current CAPM syllabus and exam while building knowledge that you can use in project support roles.

Who should take this CAPM course?

The course is suitable for students, graduates, career changers, Project Administrators, Project Analysts, Project Coordinators, and team members involved in projects.

It is also useful for learners who want a clearer career path into project management and professionals seeking structured professional development before applying for more responsibility.

Do I need project management experience?

No. You do not need previous project management experience to take this course or meet the current CAPM experience requirement.

CAPM differs from credentials designed for experienced project managers because it focuses on foundational understanding rather than a long record of leading projects.

Can I substitute 1,500 hours of project experience for the education requirement?

No. PMI's current CAPM requirements ask for a secondary qualification and 23 hours of project management education completed before the exam.

The 1,500-hour project experience route appeared in older guidance but is not part of the current eligibility criteria.

Does the course meet the 23-hour education requirement?

Yes. The course is designed to provide the 23 hours of project management education required before taking the CAPM exam.

Keep your training record so that you can enter the relevant education details when completing your PMI application.

What qualification do I need before applying for the exam?

You need a qualifying secondary credential, such as a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.

Always review the latest requirements on the PMI website before applying, as PMI controls the application and approval process.

Is the CAPM exam included?

The course includes a CAPM exam voucher for redemption.

You must still submit your application, receive approval, and arrange your exam directly with PMI.

How much does the CAPM exam cost?

A CAPM exam voucher is included with this e-Careers course, so you do not need to rely on a separate public exam price when comparing the package.

PMI can change member and non-member exam fees. Check its current pricing if you plan to purchase an exam outside this course.

Is PMI membership included?

Yes. The course includes 1-year PMI membership.

PMI members can access member resources and other benefits. Membership may also help you connect with the wider project community, although available benefits can change.

Is the PMBOK® Guide essential for CAPM exam preparation?

The PMBOK® Guide is a useful CAPM reference, but it is not the only source used for the exam.

Your training and revision should follow the current CAPM Exam Content Outline and authorised course resources. On the referenced provider course, the PMBOK® Guide Seventh Edition is listed as an optional extra rather than a standard inclusion.

What does the CAPM exam cover?

The CAPM exam covers project management fundamentals and core concepts, predictive and plan-based methods, Agile frameworks, and business analysis.

These domains test whether you can recognise how different approaches, tasks, responsibilities, and tools support project work.

How many questions are in the CAPM exam?

The CAPM exam includes 150 questions. Of these, 135 are scored, and 15 are unscored pretest questions.

How long is the CAPM exam?

The CAPM exam lasts three hours. It also includes one 10-minute break after you complete and review questions 1 to 75.

What question types can appear in the CAPM exam?

The exam can include multiple-choice, drag-and-drop-style, animation or comic-strip, and hotspot questions.

These question types assess your understanding and your ability to recognise how project concepts apply in different situations.

How should I prepare for the CAPM exam?

Attend each live session, review the authorised materials, revisit weaker topics, and practise applying concepts to questions.

Use sample questions and practice exams to build familiarity with the timing and structure, but do not rely on memorising answers. Strong preparation comes from understanding how the concepts connect.

Is CAPM better than PMP?

CAPM and PMP are designed for different stages of a project management career.

CAPM supports people who are developing foundational knowledge. The Project Management Professional qualification and PMP credential are aimed at professionals who meet more demanding experience requirements and are ready for broader responsibility or leadership roles.

Do I need CAPM before taking the PMP exam?

No. CAPM is not a mandatory prerequisite for the PMP exam.

However, it can provide a useful base for future PMP study by helping you become familiar with PMI terminology, project concepts, and structured learning.

Can CAPM support career advancement?

CAPM can support career advancement by giving you a recognised way to demonstrate early project knowledge. It may strengthen applications for project support, coordination, analysis, and junior management roles, although no certification can guarantee employment.

What roles can I apply for after earning CAPM?

The credential may support applications for roles such as Project Administrator, Project Analyst, Project Coordinator, Assistant Project Manager, or junior project management positions.

Your results will still depend on the employer, role requirements, transferable skills, and any relevant workplace experience.

Can CAPM help me progress towards PMP certification?

Yes. CAPM can provide a useful foundation for future PMP study, but PMP has separate eligibility requirements.

As your experience grows, you can review the current requirements and decide whether that qualification suits your longer-term goals.

How do I maintain my CAPM certification?

You must earn 15 Professional Development Units (PDUs) during each three-year certification cycle to maintain CAPM.

PDUs recognise continued learning and professional contribution after you earn the certification.

What salary can a CAPM holder earn?

There is no single reliable salary figure for every CAPM holder. Pay varies by country, role, sector, responsibilities, and experience.

The certification may support access to project-related opportunities, but it does not guarantee a particular salary.

Does CAPM look good on a CV?

CAPM can show employers that you have completed structured project management education and understand recognised project principles.

It may support applications for entry-level project management, coordination, and project support work, especially when combined with clear examples of your transferable skills.
